Frosty florals

Amaryllis

The main feature of this card is created with the Honey Bee Lovely Layers Amaryllis Die Set. It creates a lush amaryllis plant with a choice of two planters. You can use it for a clean and simple card or go maximalist. I went for maximalist and created three amaryllis flowers from pink glitter cardstock. The 3/4 quarter profile of the flowers creates a strong direction that you can use in your composition. That’s why I took care to point all three flowers in different directions. Even though they’re all exactly the same, they don’t look it. That’s the magic of good die design!

I created this card for an Instagram hop hosted by @ThatCraftyGolden. The theme was Frosted Florals.

Start by die cutting and coloring according to the cut list. Check out the video for help with assembling the florals. Note that I didn’t cut the saucer and the base layer for the bulb. I also didn’t use the dies for the burlap bag. I did cut the bud and small leaf, but didn’t end up using them.

Background

I started by cutting an oval out of the card front. For this I used the 2nd palest pink shade in Recollections 110 lbs Ballerina and the Honey Bee Double Stitched Ovals.

For the background that’s visible through the window, I used the palest shade in the same Recollections cardstock pack. There I stamped the floral image from the Honey Bee Good Tidings Stamp Set in Distress Oxide Kitsch Flamingo, once from the top and once from the bottom of the panel.

Assembly

Because the background is recessed behind the card front, assembly required some thought. First I doubled up the pot and glued it to the card front. I glued some greenery, the two bulbs and the stalks to the back of the pot. Then I adhered the card front to the background with foam tape. I lifted up the stalks and the background leaf to place glue behind them. Then I adhered the flowers with glue to the card front and with foam tape to the background. It’s important that the flowers point in different directions for a balanced composition.

Sentiment

The Spellbinders All You Need Sentiments Foil Plates and Die create 7 sentiments at a time. I keep a jar on my desk with the leftovers from them. This time I wanted the sentiment to say Christmas Wishes, but in pink. I foiled both plates in Satin Pastel Pink Glimmer Foil on Hammermill cardstock, so now I have 13 pink sentiments in my little jar to use the rest of the year. I also cut some more Accent Opaque without foiling, to hold up the ends of the sentiment strip.

Embellishments

My embellishments drawer is well stocked, but I didn’t find anything that really matched the colors in this card. So I made my own.

I die cut round confetti from each of the pink glitter papers. For this I used a no-name die from Amazon. I’d rather support a crafty business, but nobody seems to be making round confetti dies. Let me know if you’ve found somebody who does!

I placed the perfectly-matched circles around the flowers and the pot. I also used some white glitter confetti on the pot itself for some more interest.
