Mariner’s Weave

Spellbinders June Clubs are all about the ocean and sea. The Embossing Folder of the Month is called Mariner’s Weave. It makes me think of fancy Nordic sweaters with stitches going in different directions.

The first card I created is using one of my very first attempts at hot foiling. I had just gotten my Spellbinders Glimmer machine. In fact I used the Glimmer plate that came with the machine. The rainbow and gold foils also came with the machine. Hot foiling has a bit of a learning curve and this panel got over-foiled pretty badly. I tried erasing it, even using a sand eraser, but I still wasn’t happy with the result. So I threw it in my Box of Backgrounds.

For this card, I ink blended with matching dye inks over the rainbow. That helped disguise the remnants of my over-foiling. Then I cut it out, using the cloud die from the Spellbinders Landscape Edges Die Set.

I dry embossed my Mariner’s Weave embossing folder on a Hammermill panel and glued it to the front of a card base. Then I adhered the colorful panel above it with foam tape. I finished up by adding Fashion Gold Embellishments around the sentiments and in the flower centers.

Rummaging around in my Box of Backgrounds I also found one that I had previously embossed with Spellbinders Plaid Company Embossing Folder. I had used purple cardstock and Ranger Archival ink in Cobalt. The panel was big enough to completely cover the front of a card base.

Another find was a negative-foiled using the Spellbinders Essential Rectangles Set and Glimmer Foil in the color Fuchsia Flower. I dry embossed my Mariner’s Weave on it. Then I cut the panel diagonally across and mounted it with foam tape.

My sentiment is also using Fuchsia Flower Glimmer Foil. It’s one of the many useful sentiments in the Spellbinders You Are Everything Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set.

I finished up by adding some Berry Color Essentials Gems and Lilac Fashion Embellishments (retired).
