A Yeti Christmas
Designing for Spellbinders
Very exciting news for me — I’m now designing for Spellbinders. If you’ve followed me on Instagram or here on the blog, you know I love their products. So it’s a great fit for me! Super happy!
This is even better than Kat Scrappiness. At Kat Scrappiness I get 40% off everything, which is a fantastic deal. But with Spellbinders they send you the products for free. It’s a lot more work, because Spellbinders are a much bigger company with many more releases. I’m really looking forward to working more with Spellbinders. 😻
Rocky the Dancin’ Yeti
This is my very first project for Spellbinders. I created the yeti out of felt. As I described in my first post about die cutting felt, stiff felt is easier to die cut than soft felt. It’s also much easier to die cut felt that’s glued to semi-thin cardstock. I like to use double-sided tape for that.
For my yeti I used felt from Arteza and HTVRONT. See the cut list below for which colors I used where. As you can see from the close-ups, I used extra cardstock layers to give my yeti some stability. Even stiff felt will drape itself over an uneven background, so the resulting card gets quite chunky.
For this card, I decided not to use the dancing feature of the die set. So I just glued the legs to the vellum background. The body, including the arm that holds the mug, is adhered with foam tape.
Background
The background is from my box of backgrounds. I made it with Spellbinders Ski Lodge Embossing Folder and Gold Embossing Powder.
On top of that is a piece of vellum that I stenciled with white gesso. Once it was dry I cut it out with the Stitching Die of the Month for December ‘23. I also used that die to cut out some white glitter paper. The slope in it, I sketched out on the back side and cut out with scissors.
Sentiments
The large sentiment is the negative from Spellbinders Joyful Christmas Sentiments by Simon Hurley. I foiled it in Satin Pastel Peach Glimmer Hot Foil.
The subsentiment is from All You Need Sentiments. It was the first Glimmer set I got and I’ve used it lots and lots. So useful! It’s two Glimmer plates with 7 sentiments each. They both cut out with the same die.
