Spellbinders Love on the Rocks

Today I’m participating in Spellbinders launch of the Love on the Rocks Collection. For this card I used the die set called Love on the Rocks and the press plate sentiments. The sentiment set is called Valentine Happy Hour Sentiments.

Glasses

I started by cutting out the glass twice from red foil cardstock and four times from Accent Opaque. Then I stacked them and colored the white edges red, so I ended up with two, very red and shiny glasses.

I cut the liquid dies twice from snowflake vellum and ink blended over them with Pinkfresh Studio Mimosa ink. Then I attached them to the back of the glasses. This turned out to be premature.

Background

I used a heart stencil from my stash and ink blended over it with Mimosa, starting heavy at the bottom and fading out toward the top of the stencil. Then I cleaned off the stencil and shifted it to the right. In that position I ink blended with Mimosa starting heavy at the top and fading out toward the bottom. Then I removed the stencil and ink blended around the edges with the ink I had left on my brush.

I cut my background down to 3 ¾” by 5” and layered it on some Accent Opaque. I adhered it to my card base with foam tape.

Sentiment

The sentiments are all on one plate, so I foiled it with red Glimmer foil and then foiled the negative too. Then I cut them all out with the coordinating die.

Assembly

First I glued the left glass directly to the background. Then I popped up the right glass on some foam tape. I placed the tape under the bottom of the glass and between the two horizontal lines. I also added some glue to the left side of the glass, for added stability.

I auditioned all the sentiments, both positive and negative and ended up with the toasting one. To compete with all the shine on the glasses, I felt that the sentiment had to be pretty big. To further emphasize it, I added two layers of Accent Opaque behind it, before I glued it to the background.

I still felt that something was missing. I tried some bling in different colors, but I finally settled on using some of the drink decorations included in the Love on the Rocks die set. The two straws had the presence and direction I needed.

So I die cut them from Hammermill and red foil cardstock and put them together. Then came the delicate task of retrofitting them to the glasses. I had to cut them off and gently lift up the glass and liquid die cuts. But I managed, without tearing anything. I glued the bottom ends down under the vellum and popped up the top of the straws with foam tape.

I tried again with some red or transparent jewels but I didn’t feel that they added anything, so I decided to quite while I was ahead. 😂

This is such a pretty die set with all the detail on the glasses! I already have plans for my next card with it. 💖
