Folk Snowflake

Visual product list

The December 2024 Pinkfresh Challenge Theme is Magical Holiday and the color palette is Mermaid Cove, Cherry Blossom, Berrylicious, Sunkissed, and Spruce Tips. For this card I opted for the theme and a more restrained palette.

I had a think about what makes the holidays magical in a cardmaking context. For me it’s how we tend to pull out all the stops when it comes to holiday cards. There’s lots of glitter and shine! So I set out to make a holiday card that goes a bit overboard with that. It’s using holographic and green foil, as well as glitter cardstock. I also added two kinds of embellishments just to be extra.

Folk Snowflake

I started by stenciling the Pinkfresh Folk Snowflake in Mermaid Cove, Spruce Tips and Paradise on Hammermill. On all three stencils I blended heavier toward the center and faded out toward the periphery. Then I die cut the snowflake and stacked some Accent Opaque behind it.

Next I created a shadow layer for the snowflake by tracing the outside of the die on the back of Recollections White Glitter Cardstock. I fussy cut the shadow layer and adhered the snowflake with foam tape.

Sentiment

I stamped one of the sentiments from the Folk Snowflake Product Suite in Spruce Tips and cut it out with the coordinating die. Then I stacked some Accent Opaque behind it.

Background

For the background I used the Pinkfresh Snowflakes Cover Plate that I cut from Recollections Holographic Cardstock. Behind it I layered teal cardstock from my scraps bin.

I created the frame by foiling the Pinkfresh Decorative Frames with Spellbinders Green Glimmer Hot Foil. Then I cut out my frames with the coordinating die and stacked a few layers of Accent Opaque behind it.

Once I had cut down my layered background, I was able to glue the frame down on it.

Assembly

I added the framed background to my white cardbase. Then I glued the layered snowflake on top. I popped up the sentiment on some ⅛” foam tape and placed it in the lower half of the snowflake. Finally I added some Pinkfresh Clear Drops in the color Ice and a few snowflake sequins to my snowflake.
