Candy Cane Shaker

Promotion for Kat Scrappiness

This weekend I shot a video for an Instagram hop next weekend. The theme is Candy Cane Chronicles. After I was done, I had lots of leftover strips of red, pink and white glitter cardstock. I didn’t want to just recycle it, so I made a shaker card with Kat Scrappiness products.

Wood Grain Frame

I started out by gluing my cardstock strips onto some copy paper that was roughly A2-sized. Then I cut it out with the Wood Grain Frame Die. I also cut it twice from white cardstock and stacked them. Then I glued a piece of acetate to the stacked, white frames and glued the colorful frame on top.

Happy Holidays Sentiment

While my frames were drying, I used the inside part of the frame for my sentiment. I cut it out with the Happy Holidays Die Set. It includes a shadow layer, but I didn’t use it this time. I cut three more Happy Holidays out of white cardstock and stacked all four layers.

Shaker Window

I turned my frames over and added double foam tape to the back of them, taking care not to leave any gaps. Then I filled my shaker well with white glitter, pearl glass shaker dots and a red sequin mix that I got as a freebie last time I ordered from Kat Scrappiness.

The glass shaker dots are such a great addition to any shaker! Because they’re relatively heavy and perfectly round, they roll very easily. Even when sequins bunch up, they don’t get stuck because the beads keep things moving. I’m probably going to add glass shaker dots to all my shakers going forward.

I removed the backing paper from the foam tape and adhered pink glitter paper to it.

Assembly

When the frames were securely held by the foam tape, I turned the whole shaker window over and adhered the sentiment with glue to the middle of the window. I also rummaged through my Simple Sentiments container and found a pink one with the white text “Sending Hugs.” That became my subsentiment.

I adhered the shaker window to my white cardbase and added the tittle over the i in Holiday to finish the card.

Except for the paper piecing, this is a pretty uncomplicated card with lots of shine and interest. You could easily recreate it with pattern paper if you aren’t into paper piecing.
