Stitchmas: Day 5 – 8

This year I’m co-hosting an Instagram hop using the Spellbinders Stitchmas Advent Calendar. We’re hopping on even days, starting on December 2nd.

Day 5 – Star

I cut the star background from Hammermill Cardstock and the segments from Recollections Gold Foil Cardstock. Then I stitched the segments with 2 strands of DMC Diamant Gold Metallic Floss. That’s also the floss I used for the hanger. I glued the shadow layer directly to the coaster and popped up the segments with foam tape.

The sentiment is foiled in Matte Gold Glimmer foil. The plates are from a set called Spellbinders Joyful Christmas Sentiments by Simon Hurley.

I finished the ornament with some Pinkfresh Gold Pearls. This may be my favorite ornament so far. I just love the shine of the gold and the simplicity of the shapes.

Day 6 – Penguin

I cut most of the dies from Hammermill Cardstock. It was only the ear muffs and the snowflakes I cut from Recollections White Glitter Cardstock.

For my stitching I used DMC Diamant Light Silver Metallic Floss.

The sentiment is foiled in Cobalt Blue Glimmer Foil – such a gorgeous color! The plates are from a set called Spellbinders Christmas Die & Glimmer Sentiments. It includes 7 holiday sentiments and is only $10 right now.

Day 7 – Warm Wishes

I cut out the shadow layer from Hammermill Cardstock and the words from Recollections Red Foil Cardstock.

This was probably the most complex stitching of all the ornaments. You have to decide how and where to join the letters and make sure that your floss doesn’t show against the shadow layer. I stitched it in red.

I didn’t want to mess with foam tape under the letters, so I glued the die cut letters directly to it. Then I popped up the shadow layer with foam tape.

Then I finished off the ornament with some red gems from Trinity Stamps.

Day 8 – Floral Arrangement

This is the most complex die set so far with 7 dies.

I stitched the ornament with DMC Diamant Gold Metallic Floss and the twigs with green embroidery floss.

I glued the twigs to the coaster and popped up the ornament. The sentiment is a negative from Spellbinders Joyful Christmas Sentiments by Simon Hurley in Matte Gold.

I finished up with some red gems from Trinity Stamps and Pinkfresh Gold Pearls.
