Ornaments

For this card I used the Kat Scrappiness Christmas Shaker Ornament Craft Dies. First I cut the oval base layer three times from red foil cardstock and once from clear acetate. Next I cut the oval frame three times from red glitter foam. Finally I cut the ornament toppers from gold foil cardstock. There are three of them in the die set, so I only had to run them through my die cutting machine once.

For the ornaments on the left and right, I simply layered the glitter foam on top of the foil cardstock and added the topper.

For the shaker element, I started by gluing the topper to the front. Next I glued the acetate piece to the back of the glitter foam. I doubled up foam tape and cut it in half lengthwise. Then I used it to form the shaker well behind the acetate. I added Red Shaker Dots and Gold Shaker Tinsel to the well, before I closed it with the foil base layer.

Background

The plaid paper is from my stash. I cut it a little larger than an A2 card. Then I cut some heavy white cardstock ¼” smaller length- and width-wise than an A2 card and glued it to the back of the pattern paper. I adhered the card panel to the front of my card base, taking care to align it on two sides. Then I cut off the excess with my guillotine trimmer. Doing it this way assures that the pattern paper sits straight on the card base and covers it completely with no unsightly white edges.

Assembly & Stamping

I glued the flat ornaments to the background in the lower left and upper right corner. Then I added a double layer of foam tape to the back of the shaker element, taking care not to place any where it would overlap the other two ornaments.

For my sentiment and the snowflakes I used Kat Scrappiness Reindeer Games Sentiments Stamp Set. With the shaker element in the right place, but not glued down, I determined the placement of the sentiment and snow flakes. Then I removed the shaker and stamped and heat embossed in gold.

I removed the backing paper from the foam tape and adhered the shaker in the center of the card. Then I finished up by drawing in the ornament strings with a ruler and a dark brown pen.
