Missing Tile Sympathy

↓ Visual product list

While the patterns in the Spellbinders Sketchy Hexy BetterPress plate are playful, I wanted to use this plate for a sympathy card. Specifically one that acknowledges the hole left in our lives when someone we love passes.

I could have used the hexagon die included with the set to create the hole. But I felt that it was too neat. Grief isn’t neat. So I cut out by hand instead.

BetterPress

The foil is Satin Peach, which is only available in the Pastel Satin Variety Pack, as far as I know. I foiled the background plate on Hammermill. Then I foiled the negative with my Pinkfresh Studio Solid Foil Plate also on Hammermill.

Cutting

I die cut two tiles from the negative. For the positive tile, I channeled my inner Kristina Werner and carefully cut it with a small box cutter and a ruler. The trick is to cut gently numerous times, as I’ve learned from watching many of Kristina’s videos.

Assembly

I glued a piece of black cardstock to the front of my card base. Then I cut down the positive-foiled background to 4″ by 5 ¼” and stacked two pieces of Accent Opaque 100 lbs behind it. Obviously I had to cut out a piece from the center, to allow for the reveal. Once the glue had set up, I centered the panel on the card front.

I popped up my two negative-foiled tiles on thin foam tape and placed them on either side of the missing tile. Then I used a sentiment from my mug of sentiments to bridge the gap between the two “main characters.” The sentiment is from the You Are Everything Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set. It’s also foiled with Satin Peach Glimmer Foil.
