I still have lots of Kat Scrappiness Cowboy Quokka Ephemera left! This time I used a cowgirl as my focal point.
Background
I enjoy pattern stamping, so I selected a sentiment from the Kat Scrappiness Cowboy Quokka Sentiments Stamp Set. It says “Boots, Lace and a Whole Lot of Grace.” I think that’s a great compliment for mom!
This time I moved the stamp for each impression. Then I heat embossed each impression with Ranger Super Fine Embossing Powder in Clear. I think I fit about 8 rows of my sentiment, so I stamped it about 20 times.
The ink colors I chose match the pink, blue and yellow in the cowgirl ephemera piece I had selected as my focal point. They were Pinkfresh Studio Sparkling Rose, Sky Blue and Lemon Whip. I ink blended them randomly over the background and finished by wiping the excess ink off the emboss resist. Then I die cut my background with the second largest die from the Kat Scrappiness Cross Stitch Rectangle Die Set. I also die cut a piece of Accent Opaque 100 lbs that I glued to the back for stability. Then I finished up the panel by backing it with thin craft foam from the Dollar Tree.

Focal Point
I had already chosen the cowgirl quokka from the Kat Scrappiness Cowboy Quokka Ephemera before I started working on the card. Because I thought I wanted to pop her up on some foam tape, I traced around her outline on some Accent Opaque 100 lbs. Then I cut well within the line to create a stacking piece. This I glued to the back of the ephemera piece for stability. Then I added foam tape to the back of the piece.
Sentiment
I didn’t want to cover up the pretty background, so I chose some vellum for my sentiment. The vellum is 2″ tall and 8 ½” wide.
It doesn’t really need to be that wide. You just need it to be about 1″ wider than the card panel. My card panel is 3 ½”, so I only needed 4 ½”. But the extra width meant I could place my sentiment anywhere near the middle and be confident that I had enough vellum to wrap around the panel.
The sentiment is from the Kat Scrappiness Happy Day Stamp Set. I first stamped each stamp separately on some scrap paper to get the spacing right. Then I put the stamped scrap paper in my Misti under the vellum piece. I lined up the Happy and Day stamps with the impression and picked them up with the lid of my Misti. Then I heat embossed them with Ranger Super Fine Embossing Powder in the color Gold. Next I repeated the process with the word Mother and the exclamation mark.
Card Base
My card base is a thin, textured jeans blue cardstock. It goes great with the theme of the card, but it’s a bit flimsy.
To avoid it collapsing, I die cut 2 Hammermill rectangles and 1 Accent Opaque rectangle with the second largest die from the Kat Scrappiness Cross Stitch Rectangle Die Set. I centered the two Hammermill rectangles on the insides of the card and the Accent Opaque one on the back of the card base.
Assembly
I added double-sided adhesive strips on the back of my card panel. Then I placed the vellum with the sentiment in the lower left third of the card panel and marked the left and right sides. Next I scored the vellum at my pencil marks and erased the marks. I folded the vellum at the scored lines and wrapped it around the card panel. I removed the backing paper from the double-sided tape on the back and adhered the vellum strip.
Next I added glue to the back of my card panel and glued it to the center of the front of the card base. Then I removed the backing paper from the foam tape behind my cowgirl quokka and adhered her to the right of the sentiment. Finally I added some Bubble Bath Dual Color Pearls and Pink Sapphire Rhinestones around the sentiment.
I’m loving the soft pastel colors on this Mother’s Day card and who can resist that cowgirl quokka? It feels both rustic and feminine, just as I intended.
